Community Check-ins
We journeyed back to Edmonton twice last summer to follow the Communities ChooseWell Team to three #Alberta communities where their programming has been in place since the early '00s.
Although we've worked with ChooseWell for over three years, it was our first chance to meet the team in person and it was the team's first opportunity to visit some of the communities they had been supporting virtually during the pandemic. The goal was to check in with ChooseWell communities to hear how their programs are making a difference.
And, we're on the road-show
Strathcona County
To kick things off, we met the team in Strathcona County where they held engagement sessions with parks and recreation staff to hear and share knowledge about how ChooseWell programs are working in the community.
Boyle Street Community Services
Next, we stopped into Boyle Street Community Services during a staff and community lunch where Elliott Tanti took us on a tour of the facilities including a short rest in the community garden.
Samson Youth & Sport Development
The Pope's visit to Samson Cree Nation coincided with our first trip in July, so we returned back to Alberta in late August for our visit there. We spent the day with Kacey Yellowbird and his colleagues who showed us a traditional moose harvesting, shared stories of neighbourly collaboration, and spoke about what it means to them to provide sports and recreation programs to youth.
📣 INTRODUCING: Team ChooseWell
When one of our visits got postponed in July, we made a game-day decision to fit in a video session with the ChooseWell Team, turning it into a team branding opportunity.

And because the Team lives and breathes active living and healthy eating, they couldn't help sharing their insights into how they maintain a healthy balance of both.
